how to hang art
We’ve been in a lot of homes, and for some reason, art placement seems to be a tricky one for homeowners. It’s often too high, too low, or the wrong scale for the space and the wall. Luckily, there are some key measurements you can follow to hang your art like a professional:
1.60 Inches
In general, you can place the center of the piece about 60″ off the ground. This doesn’t work for every situation, but it’s a good place to start when hanging your piece.
2.Above Furniture
When hanging a piece above a couch or a dresser, you should go 4-8″ above the piece of furniture. Most art is hung way too high and it ends up looking disjointed.
3.scale
Make sure the art (or art grouping) takes up at least 1/2 – 2/3 the width of the piece of furniture it’s going above.
4.Group Closely
If you are hanging a group of frames or a gallery wall, then make sure you hang the pieces closely. 2-3” between frames will ensure that the grouping looks cohesive.
